As far as I know, the GNU Fortran and C compiler developers do not provide any explanation of compiler errors and warning beyond what is output.  I realize this answer isn't what you had been hoping for.  If you're comfortable with it, you could post any problematic or confusing compiler messages here for myself and the other forum members to try and decipher.
