Topic: Simply Fortran 4.0

Just moments ago, we released Simply Fortran 4.0!  We've packed in a lot of changes, improvements, and new features, so we have a new blog post explaining all the changes that are here.

Finally Simply Fortran will support alternate compilers.  While we're still shipping GNU Fortran (version 16.1!) on Windows, the development environment can also employ flang or WebFortran with a simple dropdown selection (and the user installing either of them).  On Windows, Simply Fortran can also use WSL directly to compile Linux executables or debug them from within the development environment.

On Linux, users will notice a pretty major overhaul of the look-and-feel of the development environment.  Simply Fortran should look more at home and interact correctly with modern Linux desktops.  And our compiler selection also works on Linux!

Unfortunately, we do not have a macOS release, nor do we plan on one.  The blog entry has more on that decision.

As a Mac user, I'm a little sad but very understanding. Many Apple software developers struggle under the same ... surprises.

And I have loaded Simply Fortran 4.0 (Build 4932) on my PC. I bet if I spend a little time learning to use the Windows/Fortran graphic package so I can add simple input forms.

I have a license code for V3.x, I didn't see any prompting for V4.x but it doesn't take the V3 license code - so a paid upgrade?

I understand this is more a Windows 11 question but I'm trying to move from the Mac over to V4.x on the PC. When I try to open the WindowApps folder I get a message that says I don't have permission. But right-clicking doesn't bring up an "Run as Administrator" anywhere. The folder is a more pale yellow than the others.

TrustedInstaller and System have full control but Administrators just have List Folder Contents. Users have Read & execute.

This is my machine at home. Where do I see my status. I figured I was the Administrator (which I thought meant I was god of the machine).
