Topic: Type component qualifier
I know this seems petty, but is there any way to include an option to use a . instead of a % to reference components? In my opinion it really makes code more readable.

I'm afraid there is no compiler option to switch to using a dot to reference derived type members. You'll need to complain to the Fortran standards committee about that choice, but I think a large number of developers already have.
Well then I think a full-fledged protest at the next committee meeting is in order. I can bring a tent and a grill.
Also, that makes me think that IVF implemented it on their own and kept it hush-hush.
